Dorival Jr will be the next coach of the Brazilian national team, having officially left São Paulo, which he coached last season, to replace Fernando Diniz, who was sacked last Friday.
"This is the fulfillment of a personal dream, which was only possible because I received recognition for the work done in São Paulo," Junior said in a statement released by the club. "I also want to thank the fans for all their love and support." The coach, who won the prestigious Copa Libertadores with Flamengo in 2022, led São Paulo to its first trophy last year.

Brazilian Football Association president Ednaldo Rodríguez sacked Dinis on Friday, saying he wanted to "advance the process of selecting a permanent coach." Diniz, who split his coaching days in Brazil with Fluminense coaching, had a contract that was due to expire before the start of the Copa America in June. Rodríguez expected Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti to take over as Brazil, but the Italian opted to extend his contract with Real Madrid.
